Grow and Show 2025
In Association with Twisted Koi!
Welcome to the 2025 Grow and Show. This year the contest will be even larger, but limited to 100 entrants, and 1 entry per household please.

The journey of both the Farm fish and the competition can be followed on Vince's You Tube channel

This is a special opportunity to be part of a unique event where we will supply the offspring from a Sakai Fish Farm Dragon Ball bloodline Female. (This line combines the superb genetics and traits of the famous Sakai fish with Showa, thus promoting Sumi (black) quality. Although the pattern is lacking a little on this female, all the qualities we look for as a parent fish are here and outstanding). This will be paired with a Male Sanke from Takano that has won awards at National level. As you can imagine we have high hopes for the offspring!

As with all of our spawnings, eggs and milt will be dry stripped, so all fry will be from this exact pair. They will be raised on Artemia in a sterile hatchery for 4 weeks until they are 15-20mm, before making them available to you.

Special recognition goes out to Lee Hadfield, the Welsh Koi Soldier, who gave us the opportunity to purchase such a high quality male. For this reason, along with the female lineage, we are naming this event the WELSH DRAGON GROW OUT COMPETITION!
Please be aware that an alternate combination of parents may be used if the first choice doesn't work!

Last years competition was fascinating. It was amazing to see the different development that could occur from one spawning, totally dependant upon the environment they were raised in. It proved that genetics are not the only factor in producing amazing Koi, and we can't wait to see what happens this year!

Within your pack you will receive 100 fry around 4 weeks old, and a food pack to get you going, including Artemia and various grades of food up to 2mm. We will aim to make sure every entrant receives their fish within a day or two of each other, and all collections must be made that same week. Judging will be on a set date around the end of October.

Your objective is to raise the fry, learn how to grade and cull, and ultimately choose, video and photograph your No.1 choice for the judging panel. This is not a race to grow the largest fish, we are looking at overall quality.

There will be prizes for the top 3 fish at the end of the season, and I'm sure Vince will be Live online to give you regular updates about how the farm stock of these fry are progressing too!

Below are the parents we intend to put together, along with a handful of fry from last years attempt with the Dragon Ball bloodline.

IMPORTANT:
YOU ARE ADVISED TO KEEP THE FRY IN AN ISOLATED UNIT, A TOTALLY SEPERATE WATER SYSTEM TO ALL OTHER STOCK.
This is due to an inherently low immune system on this age and variety of Koi.

The entry fee for the competition is £100, and includes your fry and food. Delivery will be at our standard rate of £30.
All that remains is to wish you the very best of luck, its going to be a very interesting Summer!
